I just wanted to wish everyone who still perchances upon this place a happy holiday. Due to time constraints at work I haven't been able to update either this space or my personal blog. Seeing as I expect the website to remain closed for the foreseeable future I thought that I'd post a few links to some of my favorite posts from 05, for anyone interested.
I miss blogging very much, but it has meant a lot for me to find focus professionally, while sorting myself out personally. It's been a real struggle in lots of ways, but then you look back over the course of the year and see how far you've come and all of the trials and tribulations feel worthwhile. Happiness, I guess, isn't about being happy. It's about moving forward in the right direction overall. Small steps, day in day out, retaining self belief, while trying to be absolutely honest with yourself. I have people in my life that I care about very much, and for that I couldn't be more grateful this holiday season.
This previous paragraph obviously proves George Will's point that blogging is all narcissism and indulgent/trivial self reflection. But, maybe that's not such a bad thing. It's a bit like Obama. Yes, logically, rationally, and by any fair, objective standard he isn't qualified to be President of the United States. But, emotionally he makes me consider possibilities I'd cynically dispensed with long ago. And, maybe opening up the minds and hearts of the American people once again is more important for the future than the practical act of governance. Maybe it's okay to indulge the idea of President Barak Obama, regardless of the practicalities.
Happy Holidays everyone :).
